Summer and Afterschool Learning

Reading into Success is named a 2019 Pacesetter in Summer and Afterschool Learning. This honor comes from the Campaign for Grade Level Reading (GLR). The work of the Cedar Rapids Public Library garnered this distinction. Summer Dare Everywhere is a program that brings books, technology, and activities to the hands of over 1,000 local area students. Summer Dare has grown from serving 130 students at two locations in 2016 to serving 1,200 students at eleven locations!

Access to Summer Dare plays an important part in reducing or eliminating summer learning loss in our community. CRCSD students completing the 2019 Summer Dare program showed a reading score increase of 20.5%. This is in comparison to CRCSD students not completing Summer Dare during the same period.
